Friend 1- What are you going to study at Uni?
Friend 2- No idea, I'm more concerned about having to eat baked beans fo forever afterwards!
Yes, our future poverty has become a joke. Rather a sour one. Too much a reality to ignore, too awful to take seriously.
We make the joke in the pretence that we don't mind education being devastatingly expensive. But, really, we do. University fees terrify me. What if I can't pay up? What if it's not worth the money? WHAT IF MY PARENTS HAVE TO MORTGAGE THEIR HOUSE AND LIVE OFF THE STREETS IN ORDER TO PUT ME THROUGH UNIVERSITY?!?
I think it's fair to say, the prospect of Uni payments really does scare me. The government put far too much pressure on kids to do further education whilst also increasing fees! What kind of mixed message is that? And we can't have a country full of graduates because a degree then becomes entirely worthless!
What needs to happen is that fees need to be decreased (if only for my peace of mind) and there needs to be an alternative for the increasing number of less academic people who are feeling the pressure to fo to University. At this rate, Heinz are going to have to crank up the beans machines!
