Cue the Blue Peter catchprase: Here's one I made earlier!
Short Green dress
Green gloves (I bought mine on amazon)
Red Fabric Flowers
Green tights (Mine are from Topshop)
Needles and thread
Green and Yellow Eyeshadow
Red Hair Dye (Optional)
So, those are all the things you need. Of course, some things can be changed- I used a £3 size 16 Peacocks top as my dress which is a bit of a cheat. I wouldn't spend too much money on any of it unless you really want to- because most people only wear fancy dress/cosplay once and then change character.
I used a baggy oversized top as my dress and so to make it a little more Poison Ivy (by which I mean a bit saucier), I put a green belt a little above the waist to make it look more flattering. I also had some green leafy string which I tied around the belt.
Around the neck, I sewed the large fabric leaves. I did briefly consider using a glue gun to attach them but decided that this would be too complicated and expensive. I would reccomend using green thread and tying any knots on the inside of the material to keep it neat. Another tip is to not be too stingy with the leaves- make sure that the leaves are overlapping for a full textured effect.
How to make the headdress
You may notice in the picture, that I am wearing a wreath of flowers on my head. I made this by sewing red fabric flowers and large green leaves to the spare leafy green string which I also had used on the belt. A piece of advice- the wreath looks better if you evenly space the flowers rather than clumping them together.
For people who do not want to make their wreath, I advise you to buy one readymade. They are currently in fashion and so are in major clothes shops such as New Look and Primark at the moment- but can also be found in craft shops.
Dyeing your hair
I chose not to die my hair red- in typical Poison Ivy tradition- and am also not buying a red wig due to the fact that these are often itchy and sweaty. Instead, I will be back-combing my hair slightly and leaving it a little bid wild. This is my super cheapskate method.
Poison Ivy is rarely seen without her makeup. I loosely based mine on this youtube tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQmr8gJhYyo without any of the fancy glitter or gluestick eyebrow covering. Basically just lots of green and yellow eyeshadow, as well as bright red lipstick.
I really hope that this helps people who plan on dressing up as the illusive Poison Ivy anytime soon. Thanks for reading!
