Lately, some friends have pointed out that no matter what we are talking about, there are few subjects that I get really passionate about, and if people even mention them, I go completely off-topic with my extremely vigorous ranting on the subject.
The first of these rant topics is: Chase Farm Hospital.
It’s my local hospital, and it’s slowly closing down, which drives me a TEENSY BIT mad.
The second “Get me off-topic” topic is… University fees.
Now my family are not poor! We own a big fridge, a nice TV, a bread maker and all the other things that most normal middle class people have.
But uni fees are probably going to hit us- and many others- very hard. I look forward to having student debts well into my thirties and having to live off baked beans for the rest of my life because of how cripplingly expensive university education is these days- so I always end up making big speeches each time the subject of uni fees comes up. I bloggeed about the issue a while ago, which you can read below!
Thirdly, I can never ever EVER stop talking about the opera I’m in at the moment.
Call me boring, but I’m having an incredible time out here, performing as Flora in ‘Turn of the Screw’. Ask me how it’s going, and I will probably start -and never stop- telling you all about the set (“They’ve gone for that creepy, decomposing look with the wallpaper…”), the dramatic themes (“The mirroring between characters is just stunning, and really highlights the insanity comparison between Miss Jessel and the Governess!!”), how tight the costumes are (“Oh and those BLOOMERS!”), the cast (“The director is SUCH a sweetie, honestly!”) and basically I’ll never shut up!
So those are the three conversation points you should probably avoid if you're ever with me. I'll only shout bitterly at you about NHS cuts and university fees (even if you agree with me), then jabber on and on about the theatrical stylings of 'Turn of the Screw' (I'll most likely also sing parts of it to demonstrate, and you'll just have to sit there, wishing you'd never asked)!
Comment below if you liked the blog, and what your own "Get me off-topic" topics are- or just your thoughts any of the above issues, and we can argue about them in the comments. I do love a good debate, so get commenting!
