Which server did I use? How did I decide what to write about? How did I come up with a name?
Well, today, you get your answers.
Being technologically useless, I started out by -you guessed it- googling "Website creation" at about 3 in the morning, on one August night, with a beer in my hand (yes, I know, I'm a walking teenage stereotype- sue me!). The first suggestion was www.weebly.com, which is a website building site. I created a log-in, and slowly began builiding my site.
But I couldn't get very far without a URL name or a blog title. I spent about half an hour just brainstorming frustratedly at my computer screen, when Not All About Boys flashed into my mind.
To this day, I've no idea what inspired that little brainwave, but I tapped it into the computer immediately. Maybe it was my subconscious. Maybe it was the 3am isolation. Maybe it was the beer.
Whatever it was, www.notallaboutboys.weebly.com was mine.
About three months later, when the blog started getting a real audience, I bought the domain name www.notallaboutboys.com because I thought it was more memorable without the annoying .weebly in the middle. You don't really have to buy your own domain, especially if you're on a more well known server like blogger.com which everyone remembers, but it's helped me a lot.
Can you imagine it? "Old, Incontinent and Living off the State", "Young, Black and Happy To Stab You For Your iPhone"? Yeah, right. It would never even get to production!
What I've done is really not very complicated (I have the technological capabilities of a sea slug), but I'm now getting around 150 visitors a day, and on good days, about 300!
So go forth and set up your own blog! It's really not that complicated, it's great fun, and it's a brilliant way to get an audience for your writing, videos, whatever it is you're doing.
