"Public transport is just rubbish these days"
"Yeah, the bus is ALWAYS late. And imagine how bad it's going to be during the Olympics..."
"Exactly, the tubes can't even handle Sunday night traffic, how are they going to deal with the Olympics and all the tourists?!"
LET ME STOP YOU RIGHT THERE, YOU UNGRATEFUL FOOLS.
It really annoys me when people don't appreciate public transport. For several reasons:
Public transport, particularly in London, is cheap. Okay, outside of London it's a bit more pricey, but when you think about it, several thousand trains and buses are being run each day, and the fact that we only have to pay a few quid for this privelege- well that seems pretty great to me!
Secondly, the tubes and buses are perfectly on time in about 90% of circumstances. Occasionally they are late. Considering how fantastic the service usually is, I'm more than willing to forgive a few late buses.
And yes, I agree, transport in London is going to be a bit of pain in the arse during the Olympic Games, but then again- when has this not been a problem for countries hosting the Olympics?? It's not exactly a new phenomonen, and the London Underground is undergoing huge improvements at the moment, so with any luck it won't be too bad.
In short... I LOVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
I'm interested to hear what you guys think about public transport- do you have it where you live? Not all of my readers are from England, so if you're reading out of the UK do comment! And if you're in the UK, what do you think of it- maybe it's too expensive? Too irregular in your opinion? Even if you disagree with me, I want to hear it- so comment below, and we can have a nice debate about it!
