By that frankly wierd analogy, I am referring to the Paralympics.
I’ve never really been a fan of the Paralympics.
Sure, they’re supposedly ‘inspirational’, but to be honest, that word is thrown around a lot, and I don’t think anyone actually watches the Paralympic events anyway.
And before you start sending me hate mail (firstname.lastname@example.org if you're thinking of contacting me), I’d like to add that I do respect the people taking part. I have all my limbs and I still can’t run like Oscar Pistorius can with his bouncy stilt legs!
But there’s one thing I just can’t understand. Why, oh why, oh WHY do previously normal people, who are at an average fitness level, lose limbs and decide that suddenly they want to win gold at the Olympics?
Imagine I lost my eyes in a tragic accident. My first thought? ‘You know, I’ve always wanted to do archery at the Olympics!’ NO!!! *facepalm*
Maybe it’s just me, but I really can’t understand it.
Please comment if you understand this bizarre phenomena...
