Another infinitely pointless, off-timetable day where we listen to teachers drone on about “the future” and “paths of learning” and “career options”. Or at least, that was what I thought it would be like. Contrary to my presumptions that it would follow suit in line with the overwhelmingly dull ‘Sex Education Day” and “Learning about Drugs Day’, Career Day was actually quite interesting and fun. We got to take part in some discussions with people in several different lines of work and find out about their jobs. I chose Law and Medicine and found the law group really interesting. The guy running it seemed to take a dislike to me for no reason, but other than that, a good day really.
A hell of a lot better than ‘Sex Ed Day’ anyway...
On ‘Sex Ed Day’, the only useful thing that they actually told us was that Clingfilm is a terrible contraceptive. And that was pretty bleeding obvious to most of us anyway!
But I tend to be quite sceptical of these kinds of things. They’re usually not all that helpful and are taught so condescendingly (need I remind you that the teachers actually thought kids were using CLINGFILM as contraception?!) that nobody really listens. In fact, I think they probably backfire a lot of the time. The policewoman who spoke to us all on “Drugs Day” told us far more about how people smuggle drugs than we could have ever thought of on our own!
Thanks for that helpful information, PC Yvonne!
