In a nutshell, the Muff March (laughing as I type) was a protest against women feeling that they have to have ‘designer vaginas’, which look like the surgically enhanced ones seen in porn. The feminists targeted Harley Street because the surgeons there frequently take advantage of women with these body confidence issues in order to turn a profit.
And you know what? Despite the silly name(Muff March- really?!), I agree with the cause.
Women already feel so pressured to look photoshopped and perfect with their clothes on, so it’s no surprise to me that many hate their bare bodies enough to have ‘corrective’ surgery, when in fact most have normal vaginas in the first place.
However, I don’t know how much the Muff Marchers (cue a three-minute-long giggle fit) really achieved. The real source of the problem -i.e. that a whole generation of women are growing up thinking that their vaginas are abnormal- lies in society’s attitude to pornography and women, not the surgeons who carry out these procedures.
But it’s a great start, and hopefully has raised more awareness about the issue!
To my female fans, please don’t feel bad about yourself- whatever your shape or size! We’re all normal, it’s just other people’s attitudes that are wierd.
And to the boys reading this, don’t take porn as fact. Porn is a lie- the men are on Viagra, and the women are more silicone than skin. It’s so far from reality; it may as well be a cartoon, with ‘honk honk’ breast noises.
