After a three hour train journey just to get to the campervan rental place, we were eventually given the keys to our new vehicle. I say new… it was ancient.
It looked at least thirty years old and desperately needed painting. In the first minute of starting up the engine, Mum tried to roll down the window, and- surprise, surpise- the handle came off in her hand.
It looked to be a long, long road trip.
Enthusiasm only slightly deflated, we began the long, long drive to somewhere unheard of in Cornwall.
Five and a half hours later, we were lost. It was now pitch black, raining and the window still wasn’t fixed. We began to lose hope.
Why had we come on this stupid holiday?
What the hell were we doing here??
Where were we???
Eventually, after some misguided directions from local Cornwallians, we stumbled across the camper-park and found a spot. Having parked up, Dad decided that now,, yes this very moment, was exactly the right time to make spaghetti. But not just any old spaghetti- oh no! It had to be Spaghetti Bolognese with cheese grated delicately on top. Specifically parmesan, as I recall.
An hour later we stood in the rain- soggy, depressed and exhausted- and chomping reluctantly on Dad’s spag bol.
This pretty much sums up my holiday in the tin can campervan.
I hope you enjoyed that. I edited it a fair bit! I’m ashamed to say that in the original version of this, parmesan was spelt “palmersan”!
But really, this was just an excuse to say how great it is that I have you guys, whoever you are, because I think Not All About Boys has been really good for me- having such a supportive group reading my writing, giving me feedback, and commenting on my blogs! My writing skills have come a long way since I started blogging, so I’m very grateful to have you all.
So, with that in mind, comment your thoughts on this piece, below! Any bits you particularly liked? Any that you didn’t? I always want to hear what my NAAB NUTTERS think!
