I love my subjects, I have made some great friends, and I'm finally starting to find my way around the school without having to ask the younger students for directions!
But there's something missing- and I've finally worked out what it is.
Now that I'm over the age of 16, I don't have any more P.E lessons. Unless you take Sports A Level, physical education is no longer obligitory, because we're past GCSEs.
And don't get me wrong, I was never the sporty kid of the class.
For starters, I'm short- so that effectively takes running, pole-vault, long-jump and basketball out of the equation.
My hand eye coordination is poor (at best) which means that any racket sports are also out.
Which only really leaves me the option of team games like football and hockey (which I'm bad at, but I really like).
But even I am missing sports lessons.
In fact, it just feels weird that we don't have them anymore.
So much for the long-lasting "Olympic legacy"- we don't even have P.E lessons for kids past the age of 16! It's crazy. Post-Olympics, Britain was supposed to be a nation of sporty, good-looking, physically-fit young men and women, boldly skipping, hopping and jumping where no-one has ever skipped, hopped or jumped before. Instead, we're a country whose physical education doesn't even extend past the age of 15 or so. It's no wonder that we're such a fat country, spending millions every year in taxes on obesity-related illness, if not even school kids are doing exercise!
What I would really like is just one hour per week for all students up until the age of 18. And I know that that's not a popular opinion, but I don't care. Most students don't have the time for sports or exercise, unless you make them do it, and there can be no doubt that exercise should be a part of every school child's life.
Comment if you agree/disagree with me- I'm sure that a lot of people (mostly students) are going to tell me that they hated P.E and that they're glad that we don't have sports lessons past 16 in Britain. Anyway, I'm interested to hear what you guys think of the issue, so comment below!
