Yes, it's official- Britain's obsession with cookery shows has gone completely over the top!
Cookery programmes have never been more popular, and it seems that the whole country is watching them.
Everyone, that is... except me.
I just don't get cooking shows. Why oh why oh WHY would people would want to watch other people making and eating food??
And don't get me wrong, I'm a girl with a healthy appetite!
I just don't want to watch other people cooking, judging or eating food- that's simply not entertaining for me. And actually, I find it strange that Britain has such an unhealthy attitude to food. On the one hand, we're obsessed with fancy dining and eating foods we consider part of an aspirational lifestyle- but on the other, we're a nation that gorges itself on obscene junk food like McDonalds, Burger King and Subway week in, week out. It just doesn't add up.
We gaze in wonder at stick-thin anorexic models who are clinically underweight, but at the same time just can't cram enough chips in our mouths. In short, our attitude -as a nation- towards food is ridiculous.
And if we want to change this, we have to be realistic about the kind of food we want to eat- which means LESS of these weird aspirational cookery shows like Come Dine with Me and MORE balance in our diets, and our lives.
Comment if you disagree- I know a lot of people really like all these TV shows about food (or at least I'd assume so, judging from the amount of them that Channel 4 keep producing!), so comment if you think I'm wrong!
